Marco and I like trying out new restaurants and cafes from time to time. It’s a bit ironic for me because I don’t like spending a lot on restaurant food. But I guess I’m more after the experience, and there’s something about discovering new, good food that appeals to me. It’s always handy to have a list of favourite restaurants to visit for special occasions, brunch with friends, taking visiting family, or simply when Marco doesn’t feel like cooking at home.
Taste of Auckland is the perfect way to sample a wide selection of artisan foods (sausage, salami, pâté, chocolate, dairy-free ice cream, chilli, alcoholic drinks, etc.), hand-picked dishes from Auckland’s top restaurants, and, of course, wine and beer (though we’re not into these drinks, so we practically ignored them). There were also a couple of shops showcasing and/or selling products like beeswax food wraps, organic cotton t-shirts, and top-notch kitchen tools.
Thanks heaps to Ang Sarap for the free tickets! 🙂
Among the restaurants, the first one we tried was Miss Moonshine’s. We have heard good reviews about the restaurant, but never tried it ourselves before.
Miss Moonshine’s beef short rib, grass fed, dog sauce & pickles (GF). I loved it (but thought the meat was too small for $12). M said it was a bit too salty for him.
Paris Butter must have been the busiest restaurant that Thursday night.
Well-dressed people everywhere, but casual clothing is totally acceptable too (I didn’t feel out of place haha).
Paris Butter‘s Boeuf Bourguignon Taco (beef cheek, smoked potato, black pepper sauce & pickled shallots). This was M’s favourite (that means it’s really awesome).
Euro‘s Smoked Te Mana lamb with wild wheat tabbouleh, labne & dukkah. We almost went to Euro a couple of months ago but we changed our minds. So we were pretty stoked to see Euro at Taste of Auckland, because we finally could try it! I promise you, it tasted lovelier than it looks on this photo! Both the lamb and the salad were excellent!
L’Authentique parfait. We tried one of these a long time ago (got it from New World). We bought the one in the middle–truffle and mushroom parfait.
L’Authentique sausages. “Handmade in New Zealand by imported Frenchmen.” After a long deliberation, we chose to buy three packs at $25 (1 pack = 4 pieces): 1) Ora Pork & Puha (with fresh Kawakawa & Ora Beer) 2) Pork and apple made with Good George blackberry cider & a little chilli 3) Fresh Chorizo
Rocket Espresso Mozzafiato Evoluzione R. M got to try creating coffee out of this awesome shiny thing. He’s been wanting to buy a good coffee machine ever since, but no, we didn’t get one just yet. Next time, maybe.
Here are our favourite foods, cafés, and restaurants from 2017, in random order: Mt Cook Alpine Salmon, Lake Pukaki – best, freshest sashimi ever! Little & Friday, Belmont – best coffee and sandwiches! Masu, Sky City – best Japanese buffet. (Thanks to H & D for the treat!) The Store, Kohimarama – best donut ever. […]

M’s cooking is my absolute favourite. But he doesn’t like to cook every single day (and I don’t cook at all), so we eat out a few times a week. Today, we had breakfast at Little & Friday. We had just been to Mt Victoria to shoot and to take in the views, and having […]
