Marco and I bought our first house last year and gave a 2-month notice to our landlord, BUT there were delays on the developer’s end, and we still had to move out of the rental house. So, we lived in Airbnbs around Auckland until the house was ready for us to move in (whew).
It wasn’t as bad as it sounds. Not at all, in fact. I looked forward to living in suburbs we’d never experienced before in Auckland (we moved quite a lot). Meeting new people wasn’t bad either. Yes, it was definitely a challenge to find a good Airbnb (we’re quite picky, and on a budget), pack and unpack from place to place (much harder than it sounds), and adjust to the constantly changing environment, but overall, the experience was worth it – for me, at least.
Airbnb #1: Chatswood, Auckland
Not bad for a kitchen, eh? And it has a full-sized new-ish fridge!
Loved the lighting, space, and the views!
Airbnb #2: Waitakere, Auckland
Literally woke up to this view! (We left the curtains open as we slept.)
We spent our Christmas here, just the two of us. 🙂
Airbnb #3: Glendowie/St Heliers, Auckland
The best looking shower from all five Airbnbs deserves a photo.
M went to work by bike! How cool is it to be able to do that?? While Marco worked, I would go out and go for a walk / run, get a simple lunch (like a simple bread :D), and eat at St Heliers beach. (I was on a 2-week holiday, but Marco only had the official holidays off.)
Because of this adventure, I found my favourite donut–at Cafe Kohi at Kohimarama!
Airbnb #4: Devonport, Auckland
Even though this place had low ceiling, we found it gorgeous! And it’s also got the perfect location–close to shops and the most beautiful library in Auckland (or perhaps in the whole of New Zealand, to date)!
This place had two rooms and we got to use both–how awesome is that?? We got to store all the mess in this room, and sleep in the other! 😛
I LOVED the view (trees and more trees) from this bedroom! And LOVED hearing different kinds of bird songs, too!
Feeling a bit nostalgic as I look at this photo. A major life event happened while we were here!
Quite an adventure it was! We even met our NZ parents in Airbnb #5! They’re a beautiful genuine couple, who generously shared their house, provided us free delicious meals (yes, really!), and cared for us when we needed it the most (we were living here when I had that unexpected major surgery).
p.s. If you’re looking for an Airbnb in Auckland and want some help, just message me.

Marco went on a business trip to Brisbane, and I tagged along so we could do a little side trip since we had never been to Australia before. Coincidentally, Marco’s cousin and his family live there, so we stayed at their place for a few nights. They also visited us in Auckland two months ago, […]
2nd January 2017, Raglan Raglan is such a cool place for me, not only because of the beautiful beaches but also because Switchfoot have surfed there! Yes, I’m a big fan of Switchfoot. I LOVE their music, and the lyrics are just THE best. The theme song of this particular road trip is Where I […]
Because every road trip has a song. So Will I (100 Billion X) by Hillsong was the song that we felt in our hearts the most and played the most through the AM frequency-sounding campervan speakers during our South Island winter road trip. The special moment happened while we were driving through Fiordland National Park, […]
It would have been nice to do the walks in Lake Tekapo but we sadly didn’t have time. It was literally a sad day, in fact, because on this day we had to head back to Christchurch, return our campervan, and fly back home. Side story: In the common kitchen, I saw a […]
We consistently woke up at around 6am everyday, during the entire trip. I think we were simply excited to start early, and make the most of the short winter day. And we also want to use the common shower before everyone else does so that it’ll still be squeaky clean. […]
On the photo is the view of Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown. We stumbled upon this area while looking for parking for our gigantic campervan. After a quick rest by the lake, we tried our luck again (with Google’s help) and found the Boundary Street Car Park, which has designated campervan parking spaces. Of course, we […]
The best part of the Milford Sound experience was…just about everything.
There’s no phone reception anywhere in Milford Sound. It feels so good to be offline. Offline is indeed the new luxury.
I found Crown Range Summit through the CamperMate app, and we originally planned to do freedom camping here on our second night. There were no other campervans in sight when we got there; other cars would just come and go. Fearing that our heavy van would get blown away to the cliff while we’re sleeping […]
I wish we could have spent at least one full day here, and do some of the walks. We’ll be back for sure–maybe next winter, some time around my birthday again. 😀
We arrived in Glentanner Park Centre a little shy of 8pm. Families of rabbits greeted us–there were probably 50 of them, seriously. This holiday park allows you to choose your own spot (others just assign you one). For safety reasons, Marco picked a spot just a few metres away from the other campervans. I slightly […]
